Expectations

“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him”. Psalm 62:5 NKJV

We have all been in a long, slow moving line. Gotten frustrated, anxious, or even cut off. Hopefully we kept our cool. But we have all received the expected outcome which was what we were waiting in line for. We also sometimes get crazy with anticipation when it comes to our birthday, Christmas, anniversary… knowing we are getting something, and can’t wait for the day to come. And then recieve that expected outcome as well.

In turn, I also believe we have all been situations where we were hoping to receive; whether it was compensation or maybe a gift, but were left disappointed. Or maybe we had high hopes from someone and they didn’t live up to who we thought they would be and they let us down. In these cases we received less than expected. This is just mentioning a few situations but feel free to add your own as we have all been there.

Then there are times when we received way more than we expected. That’s God! He gives us way more because He has unlimited resources and loves to bless His children. You see, when our expectations are from people, we are limited to their capabilities and resources. But when our expectations are from God, and we are in accordance with His will, it’s puts Him in a position to move for us in a grander way, a lot more than any man can.

The other side of this though, is if we do not expect anything from God, we probably won’t receive anything. We also need to pray, “believing” as Jesus taught in Matt. 21:22. Not just throwing our requests up in the air with hopes that He might answer. But coming to Him expecting that as He hears, He will also answer. Then not limiting Him with our preconceived ideas of how He will work things out. We just need to expect that He is God and that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or even think (Eph. 3:20).

The next verses in this passage of Psalms 62:6-7 say that, “He only is my rock… my salvation… my defense… my glory… my strength… and my refuge“. So with that kind of assurance and expectation, we can wait silently for God alone and let God do God. We don’t have to nag Him and tell Him how to do things but wait in silent expectation. And I also believe as well that when we expect more, He gives more. What are your expectations of Him?

Blessings!
